The Pumas beat Merrill 4-0 and followed that up with a 2-1 win over Kewaskum.
In game one Morgan Gunderson limited Merrill to three hits and struck out three. Poynette scored one in the third and three more in the fifth. Hitters were Addison Mackey, Emma Gavinski, Kassidy McCaffery with two hits including a double, Grace Gavinski, Karli Rivette, Maggie Steinhorst with two hits, and Bella Severson with two hits.
In game 2 McCaffery held off Kewaskum by scattering six hits and striking out six. The Pumas got the game's first run in the second and added the second one in the third. Kewaskum mounted a seventh inning rally but the Pumas held them off with just one run. In the Kewaskum fourth first sacker Karli Rivette made yet another great play. With runners on second and third and no outs Rivette fielded a bunt, faked a throw to first, wheeled and threw to third where the runner there had broken for home and now had to get back but she was late and the Pumas got her out in a rundown and McCaffery pitched out of trouble.
Hitters for Poynette were Addison Mackey with a triple, Emma Gavinski with two hits, Grace Gavinski had a triple, Gunderson had two singles and Rivette singled.
The Pumas host Stevens Point Pacelli on Tuesday and travel to Lodi on Thursday for a big Capitol North matchup.
